Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Why choose Capstone?

As an extension of our mission to provide continued support and insight to our current and prospective students, as well as prospective employers, we endeavour to stay connected with our alumni capstone graduates. From their feedback and experiences, individuals can gather further information on the capstone business study project, as well as the benefits and opportunities the program provides. You will see that some of our past students stayed on as regular employees with the companies they completed projects for, and others were successful in pursuing their own opportunities.

Below, we have provided a few testimonials from employers and students sharing their respective thoughts and experiences.

Proposal: Increase Corporate Presence and Rebranding

"We proposed a nine-month experiential learning opportunity to a selection of University of Ontario Institute of Technology Marketing students. The capstone project focused on increasing the firm's social media presence and rebranding through strategic development in line with our business plans. In doing so, our firm gained exposure to modern mediums and prepared us for the future work environment." - L&G Inc.

Proposal: Product and Company Position Plan and Strategy

"A great experience, I look forward to working with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology again. Jason was an excellent lead and provided regular detailed updates. Thank you!" - YMS

Proposal: Market Positioning and Development Strategy

"It was both an honour and a pleasure to work with this capstone team. Their diversity of perspective integrated with their business learning enabled us to take the Executive Leadership Development App and morph it into the Leadership Quest App. The branding, look and feel of the App took on a decidedly different feel thanks to the capstone team! What I appreciated most is the way in which this team followed through on their commitments, even sometimes behind the scenes and quietly in the background. I express my thanks to Tim Claydon and the capstone team for inviting us to work with such a great group of students. I hope we can continue to support the capstone project on an ongoing basis." - GLI

Proposal: Game Design and Development

"The team produced work of such a quality that it could actually evolve further. In fact, I hope it may be possible to invite one or more of them to co-present the work at a serious games conference in the future. They made a very real contribution, because this early stage design and development work simply could not have been done otherwise (too 'early stage' to get funding for development), so this was a major stepping stone towards realizing some pretty serious and pretty valuable goals. The team was a real pleasure to work with, friendly, respectful, open to ideas, thoughtful and responsive. Because of this experience, I would consider supervising another capstone project in the future; they have been great 'ambassadors' for the capstone program" - Unnamed

Proposal: Business Development Project

"The report we received was exactly what we were looking for; obviously Nabeel and Tyler clearly understood the deliverables. The team absolutely made a contribution to our organization. Having an unbiased perspective on what we were trying to achieve as a company, and how to achieve what needed/needs to be done, is precisely what they provided us. The team needed little guidance after our initial meeting and maintained an open level of communication as to where they were with each phase of the project." - Unnamed

Proposal: Business Development Plan

"Our experience was very positive. The team were so eager to learn, followed direction and showed initiative. They have given us a plan to potentially move forward with. This is a fantastic program great for organizations and your students." - Unnamed

Proposal: Market Development Plan

"The team definitely made a contribution to the organization. Their project will be expanded on and hopefully released to the market this fall, with credit given to their hard work. The experience was great and I am happy with the final deliverables." - Unnamed

Proposal: Marketing Research and Development

"We enjoyed working with the team. They definitely made a contribution to our organization, providing research and justification for our current learning platform, as well as information about future initiatives. We are quite happy with the deliverables, including the information and research. We would be happy to hire any of these bright, talented, young, professionals, and would be happy to be involved in future capstone projects." - Unnamed

"This capstone project was very interesting as I was able to work with a company related to my degree and major. I have learnt a lot about the company I worked with throughout the academic school year. Being able to complete a project like this allowed me to gain valuable teamwork skills and apply whatever I learned in my other courses specifically to this project."

"The capstone course is an amazing experience and I encourage everyone to participate in this class. It would be great to see more clients in finance field attract more students from that specific program."

"It was an interesting project, and I enjoyed overall. It's nice that our university has the initiative and influence to make the capstone projects available to its students."

"Capstone was a good experience; it allowed us to put our skills acquired from the previous four years in to a real-life situation. It really opens you up to the real world. There were many challenges, but we worked together as a team to make it to this moment, and I am super happy for my team! I do want to thank the course facilitators Tim Claydon, Vera Barton and Stephen Rose for paving the way for us, while continuously showing support for any roadblocks or issues we had; it was highly appreciated."

"I would highly recommend this capstone course to any student. It has helped me get out of my comfort zone and explore different requirements. The excellent organization of this course was a great asset into completing the project. Overall, it benefits your future; you should seriously consider it."

"When reflecting on the capstone course experience, I can say that I enjoyed it very much, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in a team project that can provide a truly exciting real-world experience to my resume/CV."

"The capstone course was designed very well. The expectations for the course were reasonable, given the duration of the project. Students were given a great deal of freedom on how they wanted to compete their project."

"Capstone is an amazing project that exposes students to the outside world, and gives them a chance to see how each company resolves issues and gaps within the business. It also gives students the confidence to apply for jobs, as they feel they have the ability to tackle responsibilities within the workplace."
