The Retro Room

The Retro Room offers students an interactive environment to experience the history of computing and game development firsthand. As many incoming students have never worked with early technologies and their limitations, this space helps contextualize the remarkable pace of technological change. It also highlights the ingenuity required for optimization within constrained systems and reinforces the importance of preserving computing and game development history.

The retro room is open to all students regardless of program. Come visit us at SIR 4160.

The Retro Room

  • A connection to history
The retro room is a interactive experience that lets students experience older technology. By engaging with these games students will gain a deeper understanding of limitations present in the tech industry during the 70s, 80s and 90s. After their experiences in the retro room we hope students will begin to think about how they can overcome challenges or optimize their own projects.
  • Student Work

In the retro game dev program students will create games for our retro consoles. Students will also have the opportunity to flash their games onto a NES-cartridge, allowing them to be played on the classic hardware.
